A proud Muthi Muthi/ Gunditjmara women on her fathers side and Anglo Australian on her mothers side. Mikaela grew up in Mildura and has been living in Melbourne for 10 years. She is an artist/photographer and Aboriginal health promotion officer. "I have a great love for creating and capturing moments in time. I put passion and soul into all areas of my work and I love working in my community to help create healthier lives for our mob. I believe that we can truly set an example by being the change we wish to see in order to achieve better outcomes for our people."

Mikaela's philosophy in life is to create change and evoke healing in our own lives and communities in order to move forward and live our best possible lives with the resources that we have. As a creative she is able to express herself and her culture through different art forms and is truly blessed to be able to openly share that with not only the Aboriginal community but to all Australians.

Koorie Prints have four items on display at First Peoples' Health and Wellbeing Thomastown

Featured Artist: Taylah Aimee

My name is Taylah, I am an Indigenous Textiles Designer & Artist. My family come from Naarm (Melbourne). I grew up in such a beautiful place surrounded by ferns and lush trees has influenced my love of plants and my practice. My practice is heavily influenced by my heritage and culture, through art and design. I love plants, cats and all things art.

I focus on lots of different subject matters in my art and design practise, they tend to overlap as both of these areas complement each other well. Storytelling is something that always unifies all areas of my practice as it is embedded in my identity. Through my storytelling, I seek to evoke emotion and happiness to my customers and those viewing my artwork. I want you to feel connected to my art but also to the world around you.
